Mastering Phonemes

The first step in retraining the way you speak English is to recognize how your patterns of pronunciation are different from those of native speakers. You may not be able to hear how your sounds differ from a native speaker of American English. Krisi will help you identify which sounds cause problems with clarity in your communication. Through training you will learn to hear differences in sounds and to be able to produce the target sounds more accurately.

Learning American Linking Patterns

Since Americans don’t pronounce each word in a phrase or sentence separately, it is essential to understand when and how words get connected or “linked” together to understand spoken American English. Are you able to understand native speakers of American English? Do you use linking when you speak English? Learning American linking patterns is one key to improving your listening skills and increasing your fluency.

Practicing the Rhythm of American English

You’ll need to try on a new sound in order to speak natural-sounding English. It will likely feel unnatural to you at first. American English uses a dynamic range of pitches compared to some languages. You’ll study where the accented syllables are within words (word stress) and where the accented words are within a sentence (sentence stress). You’ll be able to practice these skills in a safe environment until you start to feel more comfortable with your new sound.
